China’s Economic Growth of the First Three Quarters of 2020 Shifted from Negative to Positive

According to the preliminary estimates, the gross domestic product (GDP) of China was 72,278.6 billion yuan in the first three quarters, a year-on-year growth of 0.7 percent at comparable prices. Specifically, the GDP for the first quarter declined by 6.8 percent year on year, increased by 3.2 percent for the second quarter, and up by 4.9 percent for the third quarter. By industry, the value added of the primary industry was 4,812.3 billion yuan, up by 2.3 percent year on year; that of the secondary industry was 27,426.7 billion yuan, up by 0.9 percent; and that of the tertiary industry was 40,039.7 billion yuan, up by 0.4 percent. The GDP for the third quarter grew by 2.7 percent quarter on quarter.
