The State of New South Wales has the largest and most dynamic economy in Australia. It is very competitive in such sectors as financial services, education, tourism, health and so on. According to Australian statistics, its Gross State Product reached 788,608 million Australian dollars and accounts for 30.3% of the national GDP in the 2023/2024 financial year. In 2024, its total trade volume reached 242,245 million Australian dollars and accounts for 25.6% of the national total.

Over the years, New South Wales enjoys a leading position in the economic and trade relations with China, among all states and territories in Australia. At present, China is the State’s largest trade partner, source of imports and services export market. New South Wales is also one of the important destinations for Chinese overseas investment, home to the China Chamber of Commerce in Australia, and has the largest number of Chinese corporate headquarters in Australia.
